Varicella Zoster IgG is a special protein made by your body's defense system. It targets the Varicella Zoster virus, which causes chickenpox. After you've had chickenpox, the virus stays inactive in your body, and the Varicella Zoster IgG remains ready to protect you. If the virus becomes active again, which can happen and cause a condition called shingles, these proteins help fight off the infection. The presence of Varicella Zoster IgG in your blood shows that your body has dealt with this virus before, acting as a record of your immune system's past experiences.
If Your Levels Are High
High levels of Varicella Zoster IgG in your blood might mean that your body's defense system has recently been working hard to fight off the Varicella Zoster virus. This could be because you were exposed to the virus recently or because the virus, which causes chickenpox, has become active again in your body. Sometimes, things like stress, certain medications (like steroids or chemotherapy drugs), or having a weak immune system can cause the virus to wake up and cause a condition called shingles. Having high levels of Varicella Zoster IgG could also just mean that your body is really good at protecting you from this virus, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. It's just a sign of how your body's unique defense system is responding to the virus.
Symptoms of High Levels
Symptoms of high levels of Varicella Zoster IgG could include a rash, fever, headache, or fatigue, which are common signs of a viral infection. In some cases, there may be no noticeable symptoms at all.
If Your Levels are Low
Low levels of Varicella Zoster IgG might mean that your body hasn't come across the chickenpox virus before, or it did but couldn't build a strong defense against it. This could be due to various reasons like having a weak immune system, taking certain medicines that affect your immunity, or simply never being exposed to the virus. It's also possible that your body didn't create a long-lasting defense after a past infection. As a result, you might be more likely to catch infections from the chickenpox virus, which can lead to conditions like chickenpox or shingles.
Symptoms of Low Levels
Symptoms of low levels of Varicella Zoster IgG may not be directly observable, as this condition primarily reflects your immune system's history with the Varicella Zoster virus. However, if you were to contract the virus, you might experience symptoms associated with chickenpox or shingles, such as rash, fever, or nerve pain.
Varicella-Zoster Virus Ab., IgG by Access Med Labs
Serum
This is a single-marker test detecting IgG antibodies to the Varicella-Zoster virus. Varicella-Zoster virus is a virus of the herpes group that causes chickenpox (varicella) and shingles (zoster).
MMRV Evaluation (MSL, MUMP, RUB, VZ) by Access Med Labs
Serum
This panel measures IgG antibodies to the viruses that cause Measles, Mumps, Rubella, and Varicella. The presence of IgG antibodies may indicate that the patient was exposed to these viruses through infection or vaccination.
Viral Panel Premier by Immunosciences Lab, Inc.
Serum
This panel measures antibodies against six different viruses (EBV, CMV, HSV-1, HSV-2, HHV-6, VZV) that are involved in different inflammatory autoimmune diseases, chronic fatigue syndrome or myalgic encephalitis, neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s, and neurological disorders such as Guillain-Barré syndrome and multiple sclerosis. Reactivation of these viruses is a major driver in increasing the severity of symptoms in patients with COVID-19. The test confirms immunological memory against Varicella zoster (VZV), the causative agent for shingles.
Viral Panel Comprehensive by Immunosciences Lab, Inc.
Serum
This panel measures antibodies against seven different viruses (EBV, CMV, HSV-1, HSV-2, HHV-6, VZV, measles) that are involved in different inflammatory autoimmune diseases, chronic fatigue syndrome or myalgic encephalitis, neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s, and neurological disorders such as Guillain-Barré syndrome and multiple sclerosis. Reactivation of these viruses is a major driver in increasing the severity of symptoms in patients with COVID-19. The test confirms immunological memory against Varicella zoster (VZV), the causative agent for shingles, and against Rubeola, the causative agent for measles.
