What's
Microsporidium spp.
?
Microsporidium spp. is a genus of parasitic single-celled organisms that infect humans and other animals, causing various diseases such as diarrhea, respiratory infections, eye disorders and skin rashes. A biomarker for this infection can be detected through stool tests or PCR testing to detect the presence of Microsporidium DNA in test samples. The detection of the organism allows doctors to diagnose the condition accurately so they can provide appropriate treatment. Infection usually occurs through ingestion, inhalation, direct contact with the eyes, animal contact, or person to person contact, with immunocompromised patients more at risk.
