1. Comprehensive Metabolic Panel Alternatives

A Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP) is a broad-spectrum blood test that provides a snapshot of a person's metabolic health and organ function. This panel typically includes measurements of glucose, calcium, electrolytes (such as sodium, potassium, chloride, and bicarbonate), and markers of kidney and liver health, including blood urea nitrogen (BUN), creatinine, and liver enzymes like alanine transaminase (ALT) and aspartate transaminase (AST).

Access Medical Laboratories and BostonHeart offer CMPs measuring the same markers as any standard CMP.

2. CBC w/ diff. & platelets Alternatives

A Complete Blood Count (CBC) with differential is a fundamental blood test that provides a comprehensive overview of a person's overall health status. This test measures several components of the blood, including red blood cells (RBCs), which carry oxygen; white blood cells (WBCs), which fight infection; hemoglobin, the oxygen-carrying protein in RBCs; hematocrit, the proportion of RBCs to plasma; and platelets, which are essential for blood clotting. The 'differential' part of the test further breaks down the white blood cells into different types (like neutrophils, lymphocytes, monocytes, eosinophils, and basophils), providing detailed information about the body's immune response.

Access Medical Laboratories and BostonHeart Diagnostics offer CBC w/ diff tests that cover the same markers.

3. Thyroid Panel Alternatives

A thorough thyroid panel is crucial in evaluating thyroid gland function and diagnosing thyroid disorders. The thyroid, a small gland in the neck, plays a vital role in regulating metabolism, energy production, and many other important bodily functions. A comprehensive thyroid panel typically includes tests for Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH), Free Thyroxine (Free T4), Free Triiodothyronine (Free T3), and thyroid antibodies. TSH is the primary hormone tested to assess thyroid function, while Free T4 and Free T3 levels provide insight into the amount of active thyroid hormone circulating in the body. Testing for thyroid antibodies helps in diagnosing autoimmune thyroid conditions, such as Hashimoto's thyroiditis or Graves' disease. This panel is essential for detecting various thyroid issues like hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, and other related disorders.

Access Medical Laboratories, Precision Point, Genova Diagnostics, ZRT Laboratories, and BostonHeart Diagnostics all offer comprehensive thyroid panels to thoroughly assess the status of your patient’s thyroid function.

For specific single thyroid markers, the following lab companies can be used:

7. HbA1c Alternatives

HbA1c testing, also known as Hemoglobin A1c or glycated hemoglobin test, is a crucial blood test used to measure the average level of blood sugar (glucose) over the past two to three months. This test works by assessing the percentage of hemoglobin, a protein in red blood cells, that is coated with sugar. HbA1c levels provide a more long-term view of blood sugar control, unlike daily blood glucose tests, which can fluctuate significantly. This test is primarily used for managing and diagnosing diabetes, as higher HbA1c levels indicate poorer control of blood sugar levels and can help in adjusting diabetes treatment plans. It's also used for prediabetes diagnosis, helping to identify individuals at increased risk of developing diabetes.

BostonHeart Diagnostics, Access Medical Laboratories, ZRT Laboratory, and Ayumetrix all offer the HbA1c test that you can order for your patients.

8. Anemia Panel Alternatives

An anemia panel is a helpful set of markers that helps practitioners evaluate key markers that may indicate anemia or the trend toward anemia. Access Medical Laboratories offers an Anemia Panel that assesses 6 different markers - Folate, TIBC, Iron, Ferritin, Vitamin B12, and Reticulocyte Count.

9. Insulin Alternatives

Testing serum insulin levels is a critical diagnostic tool for assessing insulin function and glucose metabolism in the body. Insulin, a hormone produced by the pancreas, is essential for regulating blood sugar levels. By measuring the amount of insulin in the blood, this test helps evaluate how well the body is producing and responding to insulin. This test is often used alongside blood glucose tests to provide a more comprehensive picture of a patient's metabolic health, guiding treatment decisions and monitoring the effectiveness of interventions.

ZRT Laboratory, BostonHeart Diagnostics, and Access Medical Laboratories all offer insulin as a single marker test.

A lipid panel is a blood test that measures the levels of specific fats in your blood, including cholesterol and triglycerides. This test helps assess your risk of heart disease by evaluating these fats, which play a crucial role in your body's energy storage and cell structure but can contribute to cardiovascular problems when unbalanced.

Access Medical Laboratories offers a Lipid Panel very similar to the Vibrant Wellness pane, as does Ayumetrix. BostonHeart Diagnostics, well known for its cardiovascular testing, has two panel options, both of which are incredibly useful in practice. The Lipid Panel Basic and the Lipid Panel Comprehensive.

13. Homocysteine Alternatives

Homocysteine is an amino acid in the blood, often tested to evaluate the risk of heart disease. Elevated levels of homocysteine can be a marker for heart disease, stroke, and other cardiovascular conditions, often linked to deficiencies in B vitamins.

Many labs offer homocysteine single-marker blood testing such as Mosaic Diagnostics, Access Medical Laboratories, BostonHeart Diagnostics, and DHA Laboratory.

14. GGT Alternatives

Gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) is an enzyme found in many body tissues, predominantly in the liver. A GGT test measures the level of this enzyme in the blood and is commonly used to detect liver disease and bile duct problems.

BostonHeart Diagnostics and Access Medical Laboratories both offer GGT as a single-marker serum test.

15. Vitamin B12 Alternatives

Vitamin B12, a crucial nutrient for nerve function and the production of DNA and red blood cells, is primarily obtained through diet, especially from animal products. Its deficiency can lead to various health issues, including anemia, fatigue, and, in severe cases, neurological complications.

BostonHeart Diagnostics and Access Medical Laboratories both offer Vitamin B12 as a single-marker serum test.

16. Cardiac Health Panel Alternatives

The Vibrant America Cardiac Health Panel is typcially ordered to assess a patient’s risk for cardiovascular disease. While this panel is great, there are other panels that evaluate even more markers for a more well-rounde assessment of cardiac health.

For example, the CardioPro Advanced test from Access Medical Laboratories goes beyond a more basic panel by including Vitamin D and PLAC (Lp-PLA2), which are highly correlated with cardiovascular disease risk.

In addition, the CardioMetabolic - Comprehensive by BostonHeart Diagnostics offers a large panel to thoroughly assess the status of the patient’s heart health.

The Cardio Check Profile from Genova is another great panel to consider. It is a comprehensive evaluation of lipids and cardiometabolic markers aimed at identifying the risk of diseases. It integrates traditional and specialized lab tests to offer practical guidance for clinical decisions.

For a more detailed comparison of our top alternatives, please take a look at our Comparison Tool.

17. RBC Magnesium Alternatives

RBC Magnesium is a useful test because it is measuring the specific amount of magnesium in the red blood cells, meaning that it is likely a more precise measurement of magnesium status in the body.

BostonHeart Diagnostics and Access Medical Laboratories both offer this exact single-marker test.

18. Uric Acid Alternative

The Uric Acid test is a serum test specifically measuring uric acid levels in the body, aiding in the diagnosis of conditions like gout, kidney failure, and other related health issues. BostonHeart Diagnostics offers this same serum test.

19. Micronutrients Panel Alternatives

A Micronutrient panel can be very helpful for detecting specific nutritional deficiencies. While Vibrant America offers a comprehensive panel, there are also two other fantastic options that practitioners can order for their patients. The Micronutrient Test by SpectraCell Laboratories examines essential vitamins, minerals, and nutrients to identify any deficiencies. It also assesses how these micronutrients function and perform in the body, pinpointing any functional shortcomings. The Cellular Micronutrient Assay By Cell Science Systems is another great option that assesses how micronutrients impact a patient's immune system, helping to detect any nutrient deficiencies.

20. DHEA-S Alternatives

Dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEA-S) is a hormone produced by the adrenal glands, playing a key role in the production of other sex hormones like estrogen and testosterone. Measuring DHEA-S levels through a blood test can help diagnose various health conditions, including adrenal dysfunction and hormonal imbalances.

BostonHeart Diagnostic, Access Medical Laboratories, and ZRT Laboratory all offer DHEA-S as a single-marker serum test.
