F/B Ratio

The F/B ratio is the balance of the Firmicutes bacteria to the Bacteroidetes bacteria in the gut. The Firmicutes bacteria is known to be more effective as an energy source in promoting absorption of calories and weight gain than the Bacteroidetes bacteria. A balanced ratio between these two types of bacteria is important to maintain optimal health, with altered ratios potentially leading to weight and inflammation issues, and has been connected to certain disease conditions such as type 2 diabetes and fatty liver disease.
