This test is used to detect Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO). SIBO occurs when bacteria enter the small intestine at levels greater than 1000 organisms/mL. Patients with bacterial overgrowth typically develop symptoms including nausea, bloating, vomiting, diarrhea, malnutrition, weight loss, and malabsorption. NOTE: THIS TEST DOES NOT COME WITH A SUBSTRATE. YOU MUST PRESCRIBE THE LACTULOSE SUBSTRATE TO YOUR PATIENT. IF YOU CANNOT PRESCRIBE LACTULOSE, PLEASE ORDER THE SIBO BREATH TEST - GLUCOSE.
